Industrial Controls

The use of control systems based on industry-standard equipment, most of them configured around CERN-defined and CERN-developed frameworks as well as components, is widespread both in the accelerator and the research sectors and in development in the technical infrastructure sector. The types of systems range from very large production plant-like installations down to small size laboratory systems. A detailed study of the controls activities, recommended bringing together, in a single group, the engineers and the technicians developing solutions and providing the support to the control systems based on industry-standard equipment. The restructuring of the departments has given the opportunity to implement this recommendation.

The Industrial Controls engineering Group in the BE Department develops solutions and provides support in the domain of large and medium scale industrial control systems as well as laboratory control systems and promotes their use. The support covers the experiments, the technical infrastructure systems as well as the accelerator systems.

P. Sollander is the Group Leader of the ICS Group. The group develops solutions and provides support in the domain of large and medium scale industrial control systems as well as the accelerator systems.
